Most ICD manufacturers have remote monitoring available as a follow-up option. If you don't currently have remote monitoring set up, ask your clinic about using remote monitoring. They will work with your ICD manufacturer to get you enrolled. You will either have a monitor mailed to you or provided one at your office visit. Set-up and use varies by manufactuer, but all should have directions in the box. Medtronic's CareLink monitor, for instance, is very easy to set up and use. Ever try to assemble a child's toy on Christmas Eve? It's not like that at all.
